What will it take to elevate the game of soccer in the U.S.? Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids and the youth sports nonprofit North Meck Soccer Club think the answer lies in a youth-to-adult training network. On Tuesday, they announced an alliance that will bring that model to the Charlotte area, and transform North Meck into the Carolina Rapids Soccer Club.

The Rapids were a founding member of MLS and its executives have been working to build a development academy on the model of European soccer clubs. The team won the MLS Cup in 2010, and has been building a youth and young adult soccer training ladder in recent years. Continue Reading

Davidson College’s basketball and other teams reportedly may be on the verge of leaving the Southern Conference and joining the Atlantic-10 Conference. Citing anonymous sources, CBS Sports reporter Jeff Goodman reported Sunday night that the change could come in 2014-15. Goodman says the change is awaiting approval by Davidson trustees.
