Amy Krakauer
Davidson-based triathlete Amy Krakauer won the women’s title Saturday, May 21, at the USA Triathlon Aquathlon National Championship in Longmont, Colo.
Krakauer had a combined time of 44:12 for the 5k run and 1,500 meter swim. The win makes her eligible for the national team for the 2011 World Championships in Beijing in September. Continue Reading

In the end, one team had to win, but Tuesday night’s NCHSAA 4A girls soccer semifinal was about as even a match as you could want. Hough and Ardrey Kell high schools battled to a 1-1 tie through four overtimes, taking the game down to penalty kicks. In the end, Ardrey Kell goalie Sam Steyl stopped a shot by Hough’s Courtney Carroll, giving the Knights a 5-4 edge on penalty kicks and the victory. Continue Reading

DAVIDSON – Winning a high school state championship is always a big deal. Winning when your star player is taken out of the picture by injury makes it even more amazing. At Davidson Day School this weekend, it happened twice.
In a ceremony on its athletic field Monday afternoon, students and staff at the private school celebrated N.C. Independent School Athletic Association championships by both the girls’ soccer team and the boys’ track and field 4 x 200 meter relay.

Davidson Day’s girls’ soccer team beat Shannon Forest of Greenville, S.C., 5-2 on Saturday to win the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1A state championship.
The Patriots won despite the absence of top scorer Brianna Wills, who broke her leg in a 3-1 semifinal victory over Community Christian School Friday. Continue Reading
