Davidson golfers win their own tourney at River Run

Wildcat golfer Sam Echikson claimed the individual crown and host Davidson captured the 2013 Davidson College Invitational team title Tuesday afternoon at River Run Country Club.

Echikson, who entered the final round two strokes off the pace, carded an even-par 72 in his final round to finish the 36-hole event at one-over-par 145, one stroke ahead of Guilford’s Noah Ratner (73-73/146). Read the full story

Edmondson wins junior golf tourney in Missouri

Noah Edmondson of Davidson sank a long putt in a one-hole sudden-death playoff Thursday to win the Bass Pro Shops/Payne Stewart Junior Championship at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo. Edmondson posted a final round 2-over-par 74 and a tournament total 8-under-par 208 to capture the boys title.

Organized by the American Junior Golf Association, the Bass Pro Shops / Payne Stewart Junior Championship was a 54-hole competition on the par-72 Rivercut course. Seventy-two boys competed. Read the full story

Steph & Dell Curry plan golf tourney for Ada Jenkins

DAVIDSON – Dell and Stephen Curry not only have a passion for basketball and golf, but also a passion for their community. On Monday, June 18, the father-son team will host their annual Curry Celebrity Classic golf tournament at River Run Country Club in Davidson, in a fundraiser for the Ada Jenkins Center.

The tournament includes foursomes of one celebrity and three amateur players. In addition to the Currys, golfers are expected to include NASCAR’s Dale Jarrett; former NFL players Phil Crosby, Frank Garcias, Tim McKyer, Muhsin Muhammad, and Adrian Murrell; baseball’s Tony Womack and NBA players Rodney Monroe, and Mike Gminski. A big turnout for Lions Club golf tourney Mon.

More than 110 golfers teed off Monday in the Lions Club annual Russell B. Knox Golf Tournament at NorthStone Country Club in Huntersville. Proceeds from the charity event will go to Lions Services, which employs 250 blind workers, runs Camp Dogwood for sight-impaired adults, and provides eye examinations and eyeglasses to anyone who is unable to help themselves.

News Anchor Natalie Pasquarella was the honorary chairperson for the event, and chose the raffle winners.

The annual tournament honors the late Russell B. Knox, former Davidson mayor and business leader, and his late wife Patricia Knox.

This year’s honorary chairperson is Natalie Pasquarella of WSOC-TV.
