The Humane Society of Charlotte says it rescued 19 breeding dogs early Saturday, April 27, from a puppy mill in western North Carolina. The society said its emergency response team found a breeding operation at the site, with 19 Maltese and Maltese mix dogs between 4 and 10 years old. Read the full story

It started as tires were screeching throughout the streets of Monroe, North Carolina and it ended with the heartbreaking yelps of a puppy barely old enough to be weaned from her mother. Captain Beth Greene of the Monroe Police Department, was alerted and began lifesaving efforts to help this precious girl. After contacting Daryl Wagner with FurBabies Animal Rescue Group, the puppy was rushed to Miller Animal Hospital with life-threatening injuries and given a grave prognosis. A plea for help was posted on Facebook and a community of passionate and caring animal lovers came together offering prayers and donations for a pup they were calling Rudy. Read the full story

Cornelius-based Pawbrokers brings its next jewelry party to the Four Seasons Trading Post in Mooresville Thursday, June 28. Money raised from the sale of donated jewelry will support North Mecklenburg Animal Rescue and Friends of the Animals. Four Seasons owner Brad Doane will be donating food and drinks, including beer and wine, for the event.
At her parties, Cornelius resident and Pawbrokers founder Roxanne Blake raises money for animal rescue through the sale of donated jewelry. B.T. will be the featured comedian for the evening. He has performed at the HBO U.S. Comedy Arts Festival has performed on NBC’s “Friday Night Videos.” He has also appeared on BET Comic View, MTV’s The Jenny McCarthy Show, and FOX’s The Keenan Ivory Wayans Show.

Smart Deco furniture and consignment store on Sunday hosts Ruffed Up Rescue, a local network of volunteers that save “urgent” or “death row” dogs from shelters and foster them until they find good homes.
