Town officials have postponed until Friday, June 14, the planned dedication ceremony to name the Westmoreland Athletic Complex Field No. 1 in honor of former mayor and now state Sen. Jeff Tarte. The event had been planned today (Friday, June 7).

Cannon School French teacher Sylvia Simard-Newman and student Sophia LaPietra of Cornelius have won national French awards. Meanwhile, graduations are coming up in the next few days for the Class of 2013 at Hough, Hopewell and North Mecklenburg high schools.

Lake Norman Christian School has completed its second year at the former Davidson IB Middle School building on South Street in Davidson, and hired Wes Johnston as its Head of School, to lead the school "into an era of development and growth."

Cornelius Commissioner Dave Gilroy says he's confused by Speaker Thom Tillis's support for widening I-77 by adding toll lanes. Even as Tillis and other state officials say otherwise, Gilroy argues that the state appears to have the money to widen the road without using tolls.
