Jeff Hare, owner of the Cornelius investment management and business advisory company Windward Capital, on Thursday filed to run for election to the Cornelius Board of Commissioners. He joins incumbent commissioners Lynette Rinker, Thurman Ross and Chuck Travis, who with Mayor Jeff Tarte filed for re-election last Friday, and Park Avenue Properties' John Bradford, who filed on Wednesday.

Wakeman Charities presented a check for $14,000 to Hope House Foundation last week. Founded by Jeff and Shelia Wakeman, the organization raised the funds through its third annual Jetton Park Sprint Triathlon, held May 7 at the park.

Hosted by the Cornelius-Lake Norman Lions Club, the free vision screenings included tests for early detection of vision problems like glaucoma, cataracts and diabetic eye disease. Dr. Royce Syracuse, of Horizon Eye Care, volunteered his time for the exams.
