Dozens of black-clad youth swarmed through a Huntersville neighborhood recently in a game organized via Facebook. The incident prompted a confrontation with homeowners and a warning from police about "flash mobs" and a popular after-dark game called manhunt.

Elected officials in Davidson and Cornelius on Monday gave their approvals to an agreement with Charlotte Mecklenburg Library that is expected to help keep open 20 community branches throughout the county in the fiscal year beginning July 1.

Efforts to save Mecklenburg County's community library branches moved a step closer to success Thursday when leaders from five towns reached an agreement in principle with library officials to provide at least $730,000 in additional funding for the year beginning July 1. The deal would help keep open about 20 small branches, including those in Davidson and Cornelius, though hours still could be reduced.
