Posted April 1, 2012 - In a move aimed at improving efficiency and lowering taxes, the town governments of Cornelius and Davidson are preparing to merge. Mayors Jeff Tarte of Cornelius and John Woods of Davidson said both towns would achieve longstanding goals with the deal, which could be finalized by next April 1. The merged town's name? Lake Norman, N.C.

Jocelyn Albright Desmond left us two weeks ago, and her family and our community are still in mourning. We're looking for meaning as we try to fathom the news that the W.A. Hough High School teen took her own life. Her family said Friday they hope we can learn from the tragedy. Executive editor David Boraks reports, on DavidsonNews.net.

The Westmoreland Athletic Complex could open for business this summer, if the town board agrees to pay for a turn lane leading up to the complex entrance on Westmoreland Road. The vote is on the agenda for Monday’s Town Board Meeting, at 7 p.m. in Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave. Also Monday, the board will learn about four possible scenarios the Mecklenburg Union Metropolitan Planning Organization (MUMPO) is considering for widening I-77. The organization plans to build high-occupancy toll (HOT) lanes that would run from the Brookshire Freeway (I-277) to Exit 28.

While touring in Washington, D.C., last summer, the Senior High Youth and Handbell Choirs’ moving performances at the United Methodist Church’s General Board of Church and Society led to an exciting and unexpected invitation.
