Michelle Christine Smith Bridges, 39, of Huntersville, passed away suddenly after giving birth to her second child, Sydney Michelle on the afternoon of Nov. 2, 2012, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, leaving behind family, friends and co-workers much too soon.

She also leaves a legacy of love, friendship, trust and commitment to the many people she touched throughout her life. In her death she gave her family the most precious gift anyone can leave behind, as her daughter Sydney Michelle was born into this world as she left. Read the full story

Frances Ann Hodges, 65, of Davidson died Oct. 29, 2012, in Huntersville. She was born on Sept. 12, 1947, in Mississippi to the late Luther and Eddie Hodges. She was a teacher, most recently at Alexander and Quail Hollow Middle Schools. Fran was an incredible mama, teacher, sister and friend. She taught many of us to put our guards down, believe in ourselves and others, and love truly unconditionally. Read the full story

Milosava Saric Kuzmanovic, 82, died in her sleep at home on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012.

Mila was born on March 15, 1930, in Ducina, Yugoslavia. She married Milovan Kuzmanovic (1924-1996) in 1949, raising her three children in Stojnik, (now a suburb of Belgrade, Serbia). In 1968, Mila left communist Yugoslavia to find economic and political freedom, first in Joigny, France, and then Milwaukee, Wis. She moved to Charlotte in 1998 to be near her son and grandchildren, finally settling in Davidson in 2009. Read the full story

Edward “Whitey” Napieralski, 87, of Davidson, died Oct. 25, 2012, at Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville. He was born on April 17, 1925 in Jersey City to the late Stanley and Michalena Napieralski. He served with the US Army during World Ware II.

Survivors include his sisters Frances and Helen; nieces Michaelena Icklan and Nancy Mulcahy and many close friends. His wife, Irene, preceded him in death. Read the full story

Rev. Sylvanus Carter, 85, of Charlotte died peacefully Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, with his beloved wife by his side. Born June 18, 1927 in Holland, Ky., he was a son of the late David Allen Carter and Viola Pippen Carter.

Before retiring to North Carolina, he was a pastor of the Church of the Nazarene for 56 years in Illinois and Indiana and a proud veteran of the US Navy serving his country during WWII. Read the full story

Paul “Joe” Joseph Manley Sr., 88, of Davidson, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at Levine and Dickson Hospice House. He was a retired Warrant Officer with the United States Marine Corps, serving in Korea and Vietnam.

He was born on Aug. 24, 1924 in Scioto County, Ohio, to the late Conner and Agnes Manley. He joined the US Marine Corps in 1943, was a veteran of the Iwo Jima invasion, earning the Bronze Star with Valor and Purple Heart, the Korean War and Vietnam. He retired in 1968 after 25 years of service to his country. Read the full story

Mamie Arzell Yost Deese, 80, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 15, 2012 at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House.

Arzell was born in Mecklenburg County on Wednesday, January 6, 1932 to the late Mamie Virginia Riley Yost and Alonzo Jackson Yost. She was a retired seamstress in various upholstery companies in the Charlotte area.
