Davidson College invites the public on Wednesday afternoon, March 27, to a talk titled “The End of Sex: The Future of Human Reproduction.” Stanford University professor Hank Greely, an expert in reproductive ethics and law, will present that subject beginning at 4:30 p.m. in Hance Auditorium of Chambers Building. The lecture is part of the Ethics Forum series hosted by Davidson’s Vann Center for Ethics, and there is no charge to attend. Read the full story

DAVIDSON – Three hundred Davidson College students and staff walked the Davidson College track Friday, March 15, to raise money for the American Cancer Society in the college’s second annual Relay for Life. Altogether, attendees raised $26,685.

Relay for Life is a national non-profit organization that raises funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society. Individuals form teams to seek sponsorship, then spend an entire night walking to raise awareness for cancer research. Read the full story

Davidson College professor Jessica Good is seeking participants for a summer research study on job interviewing strategies. Participation is easy (and educational) – spend less than 45 minutes on campus listening to a job interview and answering some questions about your impressions of the applicant and interviewer.

DAVIDSON – Charlottean Caitlin Boyle, editor of the “Operation Beautiful” campaign to end “fat talk” and promote positive body image, will speak Thursday, March 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Lilly Family Gallery of Davidson College Chambers Building.

The 27-year-old Ms. Boyle is the author of the book “Operation Beautiful: Transforming the Way You See Yourself One Post-it Note at a Time.” She is a longtime HealthyTippingPoint.com blogger about healthy lifestyle, and “Operation Beautiful” was launched from that blog in June 2009. Terry Fox

Come walk or run 2, 5.5 or 7 miles in Davidson College’s first-ever Terry Fox Run on Saturday afternoon, March 17. Entry is free, but runners and walkers are encouraged to donate money or get pledges – a flat amount or a donation per mile – to support cancer research.

The race begins at 1 p.m. on the lawn of Davidson College’s Patterson Court.

The race honors Terry Fox, a Canadian humanitarian, athlete, and cancer research activist. He was diagnosed with bone cancer and when he was 18 he had his leg amputated. In 1980, on one leg, Terry began The Marathon of Hope, running a marathon a day from coast to coast.

People were touched by his story and today, annual Terry Fox runs are held in over 60 countries that have raised over $500 million, making it the world’s largest one-day fundraiser for cancer research.

Following the March 17 run, Davidson students will host a cookout and a performance by Nick Evans, lead singer of The Culprits. For more information, email bemurray@davidson.edu, and RSVP if you plan to participate.
