The Rocky River Road Club will host its 15th annual Polar Bear Metric Century (100k) and Half Century (50k) rides on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013. The rides depart at 10am from Ingersoll Rand, 800 Beaty St Davidson. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Ada Jenkins Center in Davidson. Read the full story

DAVIDSON – The Davidson Village Green has seen just about every kind of gathering in recent years, from candle-light vigils and concerts to a bass-fishing tournament weigh-in and even a Guinness world record paddle-ball gathering. Get ready to add one more unique event: Yoga on the Green.
Organizers of the free yoga and music festival are hoping to lure yoga fans of all ages and levels to an open class on the Green this Saturday, Oct. 13, from 5-8 p.m. The event, organized by The Bindu yoga studio in Cornelius, will be collecting cash for Davidson Farmer’s Market. The McConnell Running Club’s last official summer running day is this Friday, Aug. 24, at 7:45 a.m. A total of 24 kids have participated in Running Club this summer, coming out twice a week on Tuesday and Friday mornings. Read the full story

DAVIDSON – Eight-year-old Allie Sadoff of Davidson was inspired last year when her grandfather rode in Charlotte’s 24 Hours of Booty bicycle fundraiser for cancer research. So she began making plans to join this year’s ride. Then last fall she was diagnosed with cancer herself, a tumor in her cheek. With her treatment nearly done, she’s still planning to ride two weeks from now – but as both a cyclist and a patient. Read the full story

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been told that achieving optimal body weight is a simple process. Anyone who can count calories can do it! Just get the numbers right and reaching a perfect weight becomes as easy as keeping track of “calories in, calories out.” Simple enough, right?
Not necessarily. I’ve been a performance athlete and cycling coach for a long time now, and if I’ve learned anything it is that calorie counting is actually a very complicated business. Read the full story
