Holiday festivals, Christmas parade, and a ‘Tawba Walk


this week bugWith Thanksgiving behind us, the holiday season gets into full swing this week. The 25th Christmas in Davidson runs Thursday to Saturday nights in Davidson, with carriage rides, a visit from Santa, and visiting with neighbors along Main Street. The North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade marches from Davidson to Cornelius on Saturday. Bella Love presents another ‘Tawba Walk gallery crawl on Sunday afternoon in downtown Cornelius. And A Kannapolis Christmas, At Davidson College Tuesday night, music critic Tim Riley talks about John Lennon, while the college Artist Series presents a Christmas in Ireland concert with Danu. On stage, Davidson Community Players host their holiday production of “The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society’s Production of ‘A Christmas Carol’.” And Activate Community Through Theatre presents “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” at Woodlawn School Saturday.

Looking for some theater this holiday season? You’ll find some good options in the area this year: Davidson Community Players will present the comedy “The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society’s Production of ‘A Christmas Carol’” Nov. 29 to Dec. 16 at the Armour Street Theatre in Davidson. And for kids, Activate Community Through Theatre will perform an interactive production for kids of “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” over the first three Saturdays in December at venues in Mooresville, Charlotte and Concord. Also, Warehouse PAC in Cornelius will stage “Good Evening From Beyond The Fringe” by Dudley Moore and Peter Cook Dec. 6-16. Read the full story

weekend calendar bugWe’ve got lots of choices this fall weekend in the Lake Norman area, from theater and food to a pair of 5K runs and a Greenway celebration. Tree lightings are planned in Concord and at Birkdale Village, and this weekend brings the two-day Fall Festival at Historic Latta Plantation in Huntersville. On Saturday night, Summit Coffee hosts its 2nd annual Twilight 5K, followed by a post-race festival in downtown Davidson.

Theater offerings include Davidson College’s production of “The Pride”) and Davidson Community Players’ Armour Street Theatre (“Into the Woods Jr.”). And it’s the final weekend for the Carolina Renaissance Festival in Huntersville. Food-related events include “United We Dine,” a daylong fundraiser at Cornelius restaurants Friday to benefit the United Way, Community School of Davidson’s Friday night Food Truck Rally to help mark the groundbreaking for a high school addition. Meanwhile, the Carolina Thread Trail celebrates its fifth anniversary and its 100th mile of developed trail with an event Saturday off Shearers Road in Davidson. Two teams of improv comedians will battle it out at Warehouse PAC in Cornelius on Saturday night.

Check out Saturday night’s improv comedy battle at the Warehouse PAC between two troupes of comedians: The Chuckleheads of Charlotte and Check!, an improv group from Marvin Ridge High School. Davidson College’s men’s basketball team tips off for a new season Friday night against Emory at Belk Arena. Kadi Fit in Cornelius plans a “Marketplace Day” at the Oak Street Mill in Cornelius. And there’s a Fall Festival at Jetton Village, also in Cornelius. This weekend also brings the annual Rural Sheepdog Trials and Dog Festival. Sunday brings the annual meeting and nature festival of the Davidson Lands Conservancy at Abersham Park Sunday, followed by a hike to an old mill and the Whale Rock site. theater notes bugDavidson Community Players Connie Co. youth theater will present “Into the Woods Jr.,” a youth version of Stephen Sondheim’s fairy-tale themed musical, beginning this weekend at the Armour Street Theatre in Davidson. Meanwhile, Davidson College’s theater department is in rehearsals for “The Pride,” a drama about the gay experience in two eras, running Nov. 14-18.
