Cancer survivors prepare to walk the first lap of Richardson Stadium at 2012’s Relay for Life


fund-raisers logoDAVIDSON – Davidson College will host its second annual Relay for Life Friday, March 15, to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The event, which will include musical performances, games, and activities, will be held at Richardson Stadium from 7pm Friday to 7am Saturday.

Relay for Life is a national non-profit organization that raises funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society. Individuals form teams to seek sponsorship, then spend an entire night walking to raise awareness for cancer research. Continue Reading

Area Boy Scout officials will recognize the centennial of the Eagle Scout Award later this month, and they’re trying to spread the word to any Eagle Scouts who live in the Lake Norman area.  Eagle is the highest rank awarded in the Boy Scouts of America. Eagle Scouts will gather Tuesday, March 16, at 6:30pm at the Charles Mack Citizen Center, 215 N. Main St., Mooresville.

There are plenty of opportunities to get a head-start on celebrating Irish heritage this weekend, with the Mooresville St. Patrick’s Day Parade and the Thistledown Tinkers in concert on Saturday. Stop by Davidson College Belk Arena Friday to learn about area businesses at the Lake Norman Business Expo, and don’t miss the 2013 Southern Conference Basketball Tournament in Asheville. There are also lots of live music performances and the opening of Warehouse Performing Arts Center’s production of “Crimes of Omission.”

During the Renaissance, the word wit signified intelligence or wisdom. “Wit” is the title of a drama written by Margaret Edson, currently in production by the Davidson Community Players and in every sense of the word, wit is the result of their achievement. Davidson’s production certainly rivals the Broadway Tony Award-nominated play with Cynthia Nixon, even the made-for-television award-winning version starring Emma Thompson.
