Author and biographer Robert Caro will give the annual Conarroe Lecture at Davidson College on Tuesday night. The week’s calendar also includes Davidson planning and Town Board meetings, a public information session on the I-77 widening project in Huntersville and the inaugural meeting of a new environmental group in Davidson. There’s also lots of live music and the opening of Davidson Community Players’ production of the drama “Wit.”

From sports and theater to a community festival and a book signing, our community calendar this weekend is a busy one. Davidson College baseball is back at home for a series of games, while the men’s basketball team plays Montana at Belk Arena, in a nationally televised ESPN “Brackbusters game. Cornelius residents can Celebrate Smithville on Saturday at Town Hall, where they’ll also have a book, CD and DVD swap. Davidson College’s fifth annual Women’s Leadership Conference runs Friday night and all day Saturday. The Rev. James Howell, former pastor at Davidson United Methodist Church, will be signing copies of his new book on Saturday morning at Main Street books in Davidson. And the Lake Norman Chamber hosts Friday morning program on I-77 widening. “Sonia Flew” is on the stage at Davidson College, while Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius has “Crimes of Omission.” There’s also plenty of live music at local clubs. DAVIDSON – A reception is planned Friday from 6-8pm at Davidson Town Hall with artist and graphic designer Deanna Wilson of Davidson, whose paintings are on display this month in the atrium gallery. Her lively and colorful works range from landscapes to wildlife to still-lifes. 
The area’s theater calendar is a busy one in the coming weeks with lots to choose from, including the political drama “Sonia Flew” at Davidson College opening Wednesday night. Davidson Community Players is in final rehearsals for “Wit,” which opens next week. And coming up at Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius, the psychodrama “Crimes of Omission.” Details below.
