Our weekend schedule in the Lake Norman area brings movies, music and athletics. On Friday, Mooresville Music on Main presents the band “Coastline.” Also, the movie “Kung Fu Panda 2″ will be playing at North Mecklenburg Park. The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery in Charlotte is hosting the Brewer’s Ball on Saturday, with a sampling of beer and food from 20 local breweries and restaurants to benefit the Charlotte chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Other fundraisers this weekend include the Festival for Hope and Housing, a bicycle ride and festival on the Davidson Green for the Davidson Housing Coalition; and the Jason Ray Golf Tournament will be held at the River Run Country Club on Sunday in memory of Chapel Hill student and mascot, Jason Ray. Also Sunday, Cool Breeze Cyclery’s Lake Davidson Sprint Triathlon kicks off at 8 a.m. from Ingersoll Rand in Davidson.
Meanwhile, Our Town Cinemas in Davidson adds “Obama’s America” to its schedule along with “Lawless,” “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” “The Bourne Legacy,” “The Campaign,” and “Hope Springs.” See the movie showtimes at right. Read the full story

Lakeside Drive opens the Cornelius Concert Series on Sept. 16 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
Sunday, Sept. 16 brings the start of two local music series for 2012-13. At Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius, Lakeside Drive kicks off the 2012-13 Cornelius Concert Series. And the Music at St. Alban’s series opens its 2012-13 season the same afternoon with BachFest VII, featuring Ensemble Vermillian. Meanwhile, fans of organ can join a “moveable feast” Sept. 14 in Davidson that includes a three-course dinner and short recitals at three Davidson churches. And the Concert Series at Davidson College opens up its season Sept. 8 with a performance by Van Cliburn-award winning pianist Jon Nakamatsu.

The week starts off with Labor Day and the closing of government offices, schools, post offices and banks on Monday. On
Tuesday, there are three Cornelius meetings: Kenton Place planning meeting, Magnolia Estates Dr. planning meeting and a meeting of the Cornelius Town Board. Friday is Movies in the Park in Huntersville. On Saturday, Davidson Housing Coalition hosts the 8th annual “Festival for Hope & Housing” and on Sunday is the Lake Davidson Sprint Triathlon and the Jason Ray golf tournament. This week also includes the 2012 Iredell County Fair, in Troutman.

Sunday Union, which plays a variety of music from bluegrass to folk to rock, plays a Concert on the Green in Davidson on Sunday. Two fund-raising races are on the schedule: Summit Coffee hosts its Tacky 10K and 1 mile fun run on Friday night in downtown Davidson, followed by an outdoor festival with beer and live music. And on Saturday, Davidson basketball alum Andrew Lovedale returns to host his Andrew Lovedale 5K on the college campus, raising money for his A2S Foundation, helping people in his native Nigeria. Green Drinks Lake Norman, a monthly networking gathering for those with an interest in sustainability, returns from its summer break on Thursday with a talk by Ingersoll Rand’s sustainability chief. And Hough High football hosts Providence in an unusual Thursday night game.

Green Drinks Lake Norman, a monthly networking gathering for those with an interest in sustainability, returns from its summer break on Thursday with a talk by Ingersoll Rand’s sustainability chief. Davidson College President Carol Quillen gives the first Epes Distinguished Humanities Lecture on “The Uses of the Past and the Humanist Tradition,” on Thursday. And Hough High football hosts Providence in an unusual Thursday night game.
