’80s night, Warrior Dash, Mt. Zion birthday, food events

weekend calendar bugOutdoor concerts are on the schedule this weekend, with an ’80s Night in the Park at Bailey Road Park Saturday night and a Davidson Concert on the Green Sunday night. Indoors, the North Mecklenburg Community Chorus has “Bella Notte,” three nights of Italian-inspired music. Two days of grueling running – if you can call it that – are ahead during the Warrior Dash at Rural Hill Farm in Huntersville. The weekend also brings lots of other live music, Davidson College graduation events, and a day of sailing for special needs people Saturday at the NC Sailing & Rowing Center. The Davidson-Cornelius Child Development Center 5K and local food picnic is Saturday morning in downtown Davidson. And Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius celebrates is 185th birthday Sunday.

Other local food events include: “Cooking with Chef Vera Samuels” at Wooden Stone Gallery in Davidson Sunday, and a “Riot in the Pasture” farm-to-fork meal Sunday afternoon at Hoffner Organic Farm, east of Mooresville.

And Cornelius customers of Electricities should remember that power will be out to replace equipment for about eight hours ending Sunday morning.

West Branch wetland walk, 2 p.m., West Branch Wetland Nature Preserve, east Davidson – Davidson Lands Conservancy will lead a guided tour of the West Branch Wetland Nature Preserve, a 91-acre area with one of the most important wetlands in Mecklenburg County.
