The spectator areas at Davidson College’s Belk Arena will resemble a winter whiteout Monday night when the Wildcats’ men’s basketball team hosts Wofford during WhiteOut Belk night. It’s one of a series of Kicks From Cats fund-raisers. Elsewhere this week, several meetings with information about the Red Line Regional Rail Project are planned in Mooresville, Davidson and Cornelius. Rotary Club of Lake Norman has its annual pancake breakfast and talent show Saturday morning at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cornelius, and Davidson Farmer’s Market has another winter tailgate market in downtown Davidson.
WhiteOut Belk caps a week of fundraising efforts for the Kicks from Cats program, run by the Access To Success (A2S) Foundation founded by former Davidson player and Nigeria native Andrew Lovedale. See our Jan. 31 preview, “Kicks from Cats plans fundraisers, WhiteOut Belk”.

On Wednesday, chef Joanne Weir, host of the TV series “Joanne Weir’s Cooking Class” and a new series titled “Joanne Weir’s Cooking Confidence,” will appear at Davidson College’s Vail Commons.
Thursday night, the Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists will hold a free nature program by Davidson College’s Dr. Michael Dorcas at the Mooresville Public Library.
On Friday night, the newly-formed Socialite Club of Mooresville will hold a Valentine Dance at the Hilton Garden Inn in Mooresville as a fundraiser for the Mooresville-Lake Norman Christian Mission.
The Davidson Farmer’s Market returns for its first February appearance in the parking area next door to the Davidson Town Hall on Saturday morning, and that afternoon the Rotary Club of Lake Norman will hold its annual pancake breakfast and Lake Norman Talent Show at Cornelius’ Bethel Presbyterian Church.
There’s also live music on Thursday through Saturday nights at Summit Coffee and the Brickhouse Tavern, both in downtown Davidson.

This year’s Staley Lecture will be by renowned author Barbara Brown Taylor, who will speak about “Learning to Walk in the Dark: The Ancient Way of Unknowing.” She will discuss how darkness has gotten a bad name among religious people, when it is in fact where God does some of God’s best work. Special meeting by the town of Cornelius regarding the business/financial plan for the Red Line Regional Rail Project. An analysis of the plan will be presented by Cato Institute senior fellow Randal O’Toole. There will also be an open forum to allow elected officials, community leaders, residents, business operators and other stakeholders to ask questions. The governing boards of the towns of Cornelius, Davidson, Mooresville and Huntersville, the city of Charlotte and the board of commissioners for Mecklenburg and Iredell counties be present.

Nature program: Invasive Pythons, 7 p.m., Youth Services Room, Mooresville Public Library, 304 S. Main St., Mooresville. “Invasive Pythons” is the topic at the next free nature program sponsored by the Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists. Dr. Michael Dorcas of Davidson College will bring a live 14-foot python to illustrate his presentation which focuses on the professor’s studies of these non-native creatures which have invaded the wetlands of Florida. No reservations are required for this program, however seats are limited and participants are urged to arrive on time in order to participate. The door will be closed after the program starts to keep the reptile calm for viewing.
