Our Weekend Calendar is shaping up as a good one, despite the mid-summer date. The weekend includes a performance by the Alabama Blues Brothers, a Blues Brothers tribute band, in a Concert on the Green Friday. Davidson Community Players’ Connie Co. teen workshop performs a children’s theater show called “The Connie Company: Wild, Woolly and Wonderful” at several locations. Saturday brings the weekly Davidson Farmer’s Market, the Lake Norman Excursion bike ride, and a Shoes of Hope free shoe giveaway at Ada Jenkins Center.
“Sorcerer’s Apprentice” opens at Our Town Cinemas. And in Mooresville Saturday, the Movies on Main series presents an outdoor screening of “Avatar” and Lake Norman Fear minor league football team hosts the Asheville Grizzlies.

Ben & Jerry’s blood drive, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, 202 S. Main St. – American Red Cross and Ben & Jerry’s host a “Give a Pint, Get a Pint” blood drive. Lake Norman Excursion bike rides, starts and ends at Lowe’s Corporate Center, 1000 Lowe’s Boulevard, Mooresville – Annual Lake Norman Excursion, with bike rides from 10 to 100 miles. 6:30-7:30 a.m., registration begins; 8 a.m., 68- and 100-mile rides begin; 9 a.m., 10-mile family fun ride begins; 10 a.m., 40-mile ride. All routes follow roads in the Lake Norman area. This is a revival of an old ride. Cool Breeze Cyclery and Lowes Corp. have teamed with American Red Cross to organize this year’s ride as a fund-raiser for Lake Norman office of the American Red Cross.
