Time for dragon boats and Cinco de Mayo margaritas

It’s almost that time of year again where everyone is suddenly proficient in Spanish. The one date on the calendar we all know without Rosetta Stone’s help is Cinco de Mayo. Hope you’ve got your patio all picked out. I know I do. Weather permitting, of course.

However, before you don your sombrero and down a margarita (on the rocks, no salt, please!) head out to Ramsey Creek Park for the 14th Annual Charlotte Dragon Boat and Asian Festival on Saturday, May 4. The action starts at 9am with race heats happening all day, while the Festival gets under way at 11am and runs until 4pm. If you’ve never witnessed this you’re in for a treat. See classics at Blue Oval car show May 4 in Mooresville

Entries in 2011 show. Registration is $15 to $25 per vehicle and admission is free for spectators.

The Ford Owners Association of the Carolinas is bringing its 9th annual Blue Oval Classic Car Show to Mooresville Ford on Saturday, May 4, 2013, from 8am to 4 pm.

Organizers expect more than 250 classic Ford cars and trucks, covering every decade from the 1920s to the present day. This year, Mercurys will be the featured vehicles at the show and the show again serves as a Fairlane Club of America mini-meet. Continue Reading

weekend calendar bugThis weekend offers a variety of choices for live music, from California’s Spanky Pismo at Birdsnest to live jazz at Carrburritos to Courting Elizabeth at the Wine Cellar. Kids’ play “Peter Pan and Wendy” is on stage at Woodlawn School, while the Bark in the Park dog fest is Saturday at Rural Hill. Thursday night, staff from JV Washam and Davidson elementary schools square off in their annual charity basketball game. And Davidson’s women’s lacrosse team hosts the Big South conference lacrosse championship Friday through Sunday. There are also public meetings, poetry readings, and road races.
