A ribbon cutting and a day of free yogurt Saturday formally opened the new TCBY yogurt shop at Davidson Commons shopping center, off Griffith Street. The fro-yo chain took over the space at 610 Jetton St. vacated by rival Red Mango, which closed its doors in November after a year in business. Read the full story

One frozen yogurt shop has given way to another at Davidson Commons shopping center. TCBY, has opened in the former Red Mango space near Harris Teeter, and they’re planning a free yogurt grand opening day on Saturday, March 23. Meanwhile, Davidson Pizza Co. has opened its doors in a small storefront on Davidson’s West Side, offering takeout pizza, heroes and calzones. CORNELIUS – For years Davidson diners have been craving Mexican, something to add a little spice and fun to the expanding dining choices along Main Street. On Wednesday, the doors officially opened on the answer: Carrburritos
The Mexican taqueria has taken over half the ground floor of the building that also houses Wooden Stone Gallery, at 445 S. Main St. The 3,500-square foot restaurant has seating for about 100 people indoors and on a new outdoor patio, as well as a bar offering traditional and specialty margaritas. The Davidson Farmer’s Market on Saturday hosted its first watermelon seed spitting contest, and market-goers of all ages were invited to participate. Contestants purchased watermelon slices for $1 each and were allowed 3 ‘spits’ per slice. Prizes included Summit Coffee gift cards and Davidson Farmer’s Market t-shirts. DAVIDSON – Char-Grill opened its doors to a big crowd at lunchtime Tuesday in the Harris Teeter shopping center off Griffith Street, becoming the Raleigh-based hamburger-chain’s first Charlotte-area location.
Some customers familiar with the popular college-town hangout drove from well beyond Davidson to sample the shop’s cooked-to-order hamburgers, chicken, fries, milkshakes and other fast food. Read the full story
