CORNELIUS – For years Davidson diners have been craving Mexican, something to add a little spice and fun to the expanding dining choices along Main Street. On Wednesday, the doors officially opened on the answer: Carrburritos
The Mexican taqueria has taken over half the ground floor of the building that also houses Wooden Stone Gallery, at 445 S. Main St. The 3,500-square foot restaurant has seating for about 100 people indoors and on a new outdoor patio, as well as a bar offering traditional and specialty margaritas. Burrittos are suddenly big in the Lake Norman area, with two new restaurants: Hot Head Burritos in Cornelius, which opened Dec. 31, and Carrburritos in Davidson (opening Wednesday). Meanwhile, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream has begun hiring for its new store in Birkdale Village. And there’s a new doughnut shop in Huntersville called Donut King. Read the full story

Mexican taqueria Carrburritos has begun recruiting for managers, cooks, bartenders and other help as it targets a January opening on South Main Street in Davidson. Chef Nikki Sawyer Moore will offer holiday cooking classes at The Kitch in Cornelius. Flatiron Kitchen + Taphouse will join in Christmas in Davidson this week with several nights of fun, including a party in the parking lot Friday night with Charlotte band Aqualads. And it looks like the former Roxy’s Coffee and Wine on Bailey Road is getting a new lease on life, re-opening this Friday as The Coffee House. Read the full story

Here’s an update about Carrburritos, the Mexican taqueria coming to South Main Street in Davidson: Owners Doug and Edie Surratt of Davidson say they’re hoping to open in late November or early December in a newly subdivided space next to Wooden Stone Gallery.
As we reported in June, the Surratts are planning to open a Davidson branch of the popular eatery, which was founded in Carrboro in 1997. They’re taking over about 3,500 square feet of the building at 445 S. Main St. and plan indoor and patio seating for up to 90 people. Read the full story

It’s mid-summer, but there’s plenty happening on the Lake Norman restaurant scene. Toast of Davidson will have a wine dinner this Saturday, July 14, pairing five reds and whites with special dishes. Queen’s Feast Restaurant Week is coming up July 20-29 in the Charlotte region, including many eateries in the Lake Norman area. And some are getting a head start with “previews” this weekend. Meanwhile, the new Lucky Dog Bark and Brew is getting closer to opening on Statesville Road in Cornelius.
