dining news bugWhat’s the saying about March? In like a lion, out like a lamb-covered-in-inchworms? Is that how it goes? Take your mind off the little green worm infestation with something a little more appetizing – like ice cream, sushi, or a smorgasbord of options. From a Ben and Jerry’s fundraiser to the Sushi and Sake festival to Charlotte’s 17th Annual Taste of the Nation event, charity-minded diners have plenty of options coming up soon. We also have details on Alton’s Kitchen Easter brunch, lots of local music, and a party just for French speakers. Bon appetit!

ICE CREAM BENEFIT

This Friday, March 30, from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m., Ben and Jerry’s of Davidson is giving 20 percent of proceeds and all tips to World Relief, to help fight human trafficking. Buy a cone, help end slavery: Supporting a good cause doesn’t get much easier than that. Head to https://www.facebook.com/abolishhumantrafficking for more info on the cause. Ben and Jerry’s, 202 S Main St, Davidson. Read more in our March 28 report, “3-day event shines light on sex-trafficking – even here.”

WINE CELLAR’S FRANCOPHONE FRIDAY

I don’t speak a whit of French, so I’ll just say this: If you understand the following paragraph, written by the good people at the Wine Cellar in Cornelius, you might be interested in heading down there this Friday, March 30, at 7 p.m, when French-speakers will be sharing French wine and conversation. It’s a monthly event, every final Friday – and English or French is OK! They’ll have French wines and other beverages.

‘GREENSTOCK’ FEST SAT.

A celebration of all things eco-friendly is coming this Saturday, outside of Davidson College’s Alvarez Student Union, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. The Environmental Action Coalition is sponsoring a festival called Greenstock that will feature live music by students, breakout sessions with environmental experts, games and activities, and – most importantly for this column – food! The Healthy Home Market and Davidson College’s Food Cart (a recent and charming addition to the campus arsenal of vehicles) will have food for sale on the premises. All ages are welcome and it’s free. For more information, read our March 26 preview.

TASTE OF THE NATION

On Wednesday, April 11th, Charlotte will experience its 17th Annual Taste of the Nation event at the Wells Fargo Center. To feed not only yourself, but also the needy, visit www.charlottetasteofthenation.com. Tickets are $85 for the main event, and $100 for early arrival and access to the VIP lounge.

SUSHI AND SAKE FEST

On Wednesday, April 25th, from 6 – 10 p.m., a Sushi and Sake Fest will be held at Bland Street Station in Charlotte. More than 20 area restaurants will contribute sushi, sake and beer, with samplings including in the $25 ticket price. The event will also feature live music and a silent auction, and all proceeds will benefit Rebuilding Together of the Carolinas. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/sushiandsakefest.
