One of the area’s most exotic new restaurants, Marrakesh, has closed its doors just one week after it opened them and the owners cited financial problems as the reason. In other dining news, the Town of Cornelius is accepting bids from mobile food and beverage concessionaires through Aug. 3, and McAlister’s Deli will give away free tea Thursday.
MARRAKESH CLOSES AFTER A WEEK
Marrakesh, a restaurant serving Moroccan/Mediterranean cuisine, two weeks ago opened in the space formerly occupied by Picasso’s Sports Cafe in Shops on the Green off Torrence Chapel Road.
“It’s a beautiful space,” owner Sam Roussi said. “I designed it, worked hard on it, it looked very nice, I just ran out of money,” he said.
Mr. Roussi no longer holds the building lease and at this time has no plans to open somewhere else, he said.
“At this time I can’t handle it,” he said. “My calculations were wrong.”
WANTED: FOOD VENDORS AT PARKS

Box 399, Cornelius, NC 28031, or express- or hand- delivered to Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave., Cornelius, NC 28031, and clearly marked “Town of Cornelius Concession Services, c/o Amy Quinn.” Incomplete or late submittals will be rejected.
