Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory has picked up an endorsement from the North Carolina Troopers Association. In a statement, President Ron Crawford said: “Pat McCrory’s experience as the youngest and longest-serving Mayor of Charlotte and his hands on involvement with law enforcement issues makes him the right candidate to lead our state as chief executive. Governor is a tough job. And it requires a tough leader with experience to do it well.”

Mecklenburg County Commissioner Jim Pendergraph and former N.C. Sen. Robert Pittenger are headed for a runoff election July 17 for the Republican nomination in the 9th Congressional District. They’re waging battle on the airwaves, The Charlotte Observer reports. In new radio ads, Mr. Pittenger calls Mr. Pendergraph a “human chameleon” for his political views. Mr. Pendergraph accuses Mr. Pittenger of a smear campaign.
The two men are vying for a chance to face Democrat and Mecklenburg County Commissioner Jennifer Roberts in the November election. Ms. Roberts kicked off her campaign last week in Charlotte. Read the full story

Stand Up North Carolina will hold its monthly meeting Wednesday, June 6, in Mooresville. Dan Forest, candidate for N.C. lieutenant governor, is scheduled to speak, along with Supreme Court Justice Paul Newby and Iredell Co. District Court Judge Julia Lynn Gullet. The meeting is from 7-9 p.m. at Charles Mack Citizen Center, 215 N. Main St., Mooresville.
