Two of the three candidates for the 9th Congressional District seat – Jennifer Roberts and Curtis Campbell – will answer voters’ questions during an election forum Thursday night, Oct. 11, at Davidson College. Former Republican state Sen. Robert Pittenger has opted out, saying he plans to campaign elsewhere in the district that night. Area voters will be able to question candidates twice over the next two weeks when the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce hosts candidate forums in Davidson and Huntersville. The first this Thursday, Oct. 4, at CPCC’s Huntersville campus features candidates for N.C. House District 92 and Mecklenburg County Commission District 1. Then on Thursday, Oct. 11, two of the three candidates for U.S. Congress District 9 will face questions, followed by candidates for the at-large and District 1 county commission seats.
The 9th District forum will be short one candidate. Democrat Jennifer Roberts and Libertarian Curtis Campbell will be there. But former state Sen. Robert Pittenger will be campaigning that day and doesn’t plan to attend the Davidson forum, according to his staff. Read the full story

The Democratic National Convention in Charlotte Sept. 3-6 will attract a diverse army of delegates from around the country, including a higher-than-usual number of young people. Among them is 27-year-old Sam Spencer of Davidson, who also is president of the Young Democrats of North Carolina.
North Carolina will send 158 delegates to the convention, people elected by fellow Democrats to represent their districts as the party nominates Barack Obama to run for a second term. About one-fifth the delegates, 32, are young people, a group he says will pay an important role in the presidential election this year. Read the full story
