Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities has issued a swim advisory for a portion of Lake Norman at the end of Peninsula Point Drive in Cornelius. The advisory follows two weekend wastewater spills on the Peninsula that discharged more than 1,000 gallons of wastewater into the lake.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services staff members collected water samples Monday, and sampling will continue until levels of fecal coliform bacteria fall below 200 colonies/100 ml, which is the level determined to be safe for swimming.
