The annual “Miles for Marnie” 5K race will require the closing of South Street and a portion of Lorimer Road on Saturday, April 27.

More than two dozen Lake Norman area runners were in Boston for Monday’s 117th Boston Marathon, which was cut short by two deadly explosions. We’ve heard from a several local runners, including a Cornelius town commissioner, who report that they and other local entrants they know are OK. A crisp spring morning and cash prizes welcomed runners to the inaugural American Two Mile Road Race at Jetton Park in Cornelius. The road through the park was a “phenomenal setup” for the approximately 70 local and out-of-state athletes, according to organizers. Hough High School’s girls’ soccer team went into last May’s N.C. Division 4A championship game as underdogs, yet produced an impressive 2-1 victory over Green Hope to win the title. Their success didn’t end there, as ESPN ranked the Huskies No. 1 in the country. And they’re back in winning form this year, without a loss six games into the season.
