More than 800 people ages 7 to 62 participated in the Lake Norman Excursion Saturday, that started from Lowe’s headquarters in Mooresville. Cool Breeze Cyclery in Mooresville, The Trek Store of Charlotte and Lowe’s teamed up with the American Red Cross to plan the event, that raised about $35,000 for the Red Cross. Read the full story

Huntersville resident Doug Gray has developed the “next generation of racing,” he says, and is preparing for the inaugural “Dash 4 Cache” June 15 at Jetton Park in Cornelius.
During the technologically-enhanced, activity-driven scavenger hunt, teams of two to four people will dash from cache to cache (predetermined checkpoints), using smart phones and customized guidebooks to locate the next spot. They can dash by foot, bicycle or car, and each new location will present a new task – a healthy, “green” activity or puzzle – to complete. The goal is to earn the most points by completing tasks before the end of the race. Scores will be entered in the players’ smart phone score sheets and posted in real-time. Read the full story

More than 38 community members on Saturday ‘stood up’ for Habitat, participating in the inaugural Aloha Cup Paddle Board races. Hosted by My Aloha! Paddle Sports and Fitness, the Stand-Up Paddle event (SUP) drew folks from as far as Asheville and raised $950 for Our Towns Habitat for Humanity.
“It was an amazing day for evolution of Stand Up Paddling on Lake Norman,” My Aloha owner Rob Bennett said. “Traffic on Williamson Road bridge slowed to a crawl from everyone taking notice.” Read the full story

The crowd gathered early on the Davidson Village Green for the 5K run and the dog fun run/walk Saturday, April 2.
More than 100 people turned out to run or walk Saturday morning for Pawz Too Run, a fundraiser to support Friends of the Animals, a nonprofit that promotes responsible pet ownership and adoption.
Organized by Cannon School eighth-grader Joanna Copio and her parents, Diane and Jim, of Davidson, the event kicked off at 8 a.m. on the Davidson Village Green with a 5K run for two-legged friends and a 2.2-mile walk for four-legged friends and their owners.
