It rained Saturday but didn’t rain out the 32nd Annual North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade. Watchers huddled under awnings and umbrellas or found a warm seat in a restaurant window for the annual march hosted by Davidson Fire Department and Cornelius-Lemley Volunteer Fire Department. Roads will close between Main Street in Davidson and Hickory Street in Cornelius for Saturday’s 32nd Annual North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade. Officiating as Grand Marshal this year is John Martin, who has worked as a crossing guard at the corner of Spring and South Streets for six years. Read the full story

Cornelius-Lemley Fire Department responded to 45 calls this week, including two oven fires, one inside gas leak and a water rescue for an overturned sailboat on Lake Norman, north of Norman Shores. More information about these calls and others below, including a tally of this week’s medical calls. In addition, Cornelius and Davidson firefighters participated in the North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 7. A great time was had by all and Santa was delivered safe and sound. Long before Black Friday became an event, cities and towns used holiday festivals to draw customers to Main Street shopping districts. For many years Davidson and Cornelius have cooperated in staging a Christmas parade. North Carolina’s towns have enacted scores of ordinances related to holiday parades and festivals. Thousands of viewers lined NC 115 in Cornelius and Davidson Saturday afternoon to watch nearly 3,000 marchers in the 31st annual North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade. The march began with the Hunting Creek Farms Clydesdales pulling a wagon full of lucky riders, and included marching bands, dancers, public officials, fire trucks, a float with elected officials and even Santa Claus.
