Davidson native and musician Jake Troth got a moment in the spotlight Wednesday, Jan. 2, when he performed live on CBS’s “Late Night With David Letterman” alongside rapper Big Boi. They performed “Apple of My Eye,” a hit-in-the-making Mr. Troth co-wrote with Big Boi, of Outkast fame.

Jake Troth sings with Big Boi on “Late Night with David Letterman.”
The tune comes off Big Bio’s recently released album “Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors,” available on iTunes.
In a Facebook post Wednesday afternoon he described the gig on “Letterman” as his first TV appearance.
Mr. Troth, 24, is making a name for himself well beyond his home town, both behind the scenes as a ghostwriter and producer and for his own music.
He studied fashion design at Savannah College of Art and Design, but has long been into music. He’s been profiled as a “GreyGoose Rising Icon,” where he’s noted for mixing “rock, folk and Broadway-inspired tunes into his own songwriting and performances.” His song “Material Things” was the theme song for the VH1 show “House of Consignment,” and his music has been featured on the VH1 show “Mob Wives,” ABC Family’ s “Jane by Design,” and MTV’s “TeenWolf” and “Underemployed.”
