Firefighters from Cornelius and surrounding communities spent about 3 1/2 hours early Saturday putting out and investigating a fire on Peninsula Cove Lane, in the Peninsula neighborhood.
Firefighters were called to the large residence at 18512 Peninsula Cove Lane around 11:45pm, according to Cornelius Fire Chief Jim Barbee. The first units to arrive found a working fire on lower floors, with heavy smoke. An initial investigation found that the fire had spread into the attic.
A Huntersville Fire Department report said the house had “significant fire damage on an outside patio area, an upstairs office area and the attic, however the home was saved.” Firefighters didn’t clear the scene until around 5 am.
One firefighter was injured treated on the scene. It took a total of 25 firefighters to put out the blaze and ensure no hot spots. Read the full story
