The National Night Out, hosted by the Cornelius Police Department and Cornelius Parks, Arts Recreation and Culture, drew a crowd to Torrence Chapel Park Tuesday evening. Some visitors tested their throwing arms attempting to dunk police officers in water at the dunk-a-cop station, while others tried out the inflatable slide or sampled free hot dogs served by members of the fire department.
National Night Out is a nationwide campaign first organized in 1984 by the nonprofit National Association of Town Watch (NATW). Under the slogan “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” the events promote crime prevention, police-community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie. Read the full story
