The towns of Mooresville, Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville, the City of Charlotte, and Iredell and Mecklenburg counties will host a series of community meetings beginning Tuesday night offering details about the proposed $30 million Red Line Trail, which would run from Mooresville to Charlotte.
The 30-mile trail will provide a regional corridor for bicycle and pedestrian transportation roughly paralleling the proposed Red Line Regional Rail Project. Read the full story

Students and parents approached Cornelius Elementary near the end of Wednesday’s walk.

Hundreds of area schoolkids and parents joined Wednesday morning’s International Walk to School Day, in many cases breaking from a routine of daily automobile drop-offs. In the area, the event included students from Woodlawn School, Davidson Elementary School, Community School of Davidson and Cornelius Elementary School.

Contractors for the N.C. Department are wrapping up this summer’s repaving project on N.C. 115 through town, including replacement of storm drain grates on the roadside. Workers have been out several nights this week, completing paving around the new grates. Read the full story

DAVIDSON - The Davidson Housing Coalition’s 8th annual Festival for Hope and Housing will fill downtown with bicyclists and festival-goers this Saturday, Sept. 8. After morning rides of 50K and 100K, the festival on the Village Green will included live music, kids’ activities and food from local restaurants.
Marcia Webster, the housing coalition’s executive director, said the festival is open to all.
“People do not have to be bike riders,” Ms. Webster said. “You can come out to the Green and have lunch. We’ve got musicians playing from 11 to 2 and we’ve got kid friendly activities.” Read the full story

The drainage grates on North Main Street are getting some much-needed upgrades, which comes as good news for local bikers.

In a letter to the editor July 16, Cornelius resident and bicyclist Don Morrisexpressed his concerns regarding the existing grates, pointing out that bicycle tires could fall through the grates and get stuck. He initially raised the issue 10 years ago, he said, when he served on the Cornelius PARC Commission, and was disappointed the grates were not replaced as part of the repaving project earlier this summer. Davidson Housing Coalition and Davidson Lands Conservancy will host fundraising festivals in downtown Davidson on successive Saturdays in September. The 8th annual Festival for Hope and Housing, including 100K and 50K bicycle rides, will be Sept. 8. And the conservancy’s Run for Green and Green Day will be Sept. 15, including a half-marathon, 10K and 5K runs. Read the full story
