Blake
Cornelius resident Roxanne Blake a year ago started Pawbrokers, an organization raising money for animal rescue by selling donated jewelry. Last year, she donated more than $26,000 to different shelters and rescue organizations in need.
Tuesday night, Pawbrokers raised another $2400 during a jewelry party at Alton’s Kitchen and Cocktails in Jetton Village, which will be donated to Noah’s Arks Rescue. Read more about Ms. Blake and the Pawbrokers parties on our Pets page.

PARC Special Events Coordinator Rhonda Hollingsworth joins some children for a ring toss game Saturday.
Despite the rainy weather, dozens of people turned out Saturday, May 14, for PARC day at the Cornelius Village Apartments, located off Meridian Street.
The Cornelius Parks, Arts, Recreation and Culture department, the Cornelius Police Department and Coca-Cola sponsored the event, which included art projects, games, food and beverages.
Cornelius PARC employees and Cornelius Police Officers and volunteers manned the grill and game stations, and property owner Will McKee provided the space and the food for the event, Cornelius Police Sgt. George Brinzey said.
“We like to get out and stay involved in the community,” Sgt. Brinzey said.
Saturday’s was the second event of several planned by the Cornelius PARC department in an effort to bring more free, fun activities to the community.
The first PARC day of the season was at Smithville Park April 21.
