The town is planning a gathering later this month to celebrate the history and revitalization efforts in one of its oldest neighborhoods, Smithville. Davidson College will host public events in November that range from a lecture by New York Times columnist David Brooks to a program on John Lennon by NPR music critic Tim Riley to an event called “Fun with 
Mathematics” by Davidson’s math department. The Davidson College Symphony performs a concert that includes Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade” and the art department hosts an opening reception for an exhibit recalling the Davidson National Print and Drawing Competition (1972-1976). Who doesn’t enjoy a good Beerfest? (LKNfun.com photo)
Hundreds of beer lovers were at Kenton Place Saturday for the 2012 Lake Norman Beerfest. The annual event at The Galway Hooker included tastings of more than 50 regional, national and international craft beers along with music from a parade of local bands. Lake Norman Mommies is hosting its annual yard sale and vendor fair Sept. 15 in Cornelius, and registration is now open to the public. A space at the sale, which will be in the Bruster’s parking lot on Kenton Drive, costs just $8.50 for non-members who register before Aug. 31. Read the full story
