The words “published author” have a nice ring to them, but Community School of Davidson junior Daniel Gittleman has learned just how difficult it can be to earn them. He wrote his children’s book “From Singer to Survivor,” an illustrated account of the life of Holocaust survivor Frieda Roos-Van Hessen, when he was 12. Five years later, after multiple revisions, fundraisers to pay for printing costs, and wrangling with Disney’s copyright lawyers over an illustration, the book finally has been published.
