CONCORD – Snow is blanketing the Charlotte area, and if you’re dreaming of a sunnier climate Allegiant Air has added a new route to Florida. Beginning May 8, Allegiant will operate nonstop flights from Concord Regional Airport to Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
The Las Vegas-based airline currently operates flights to the Orlando-Sanford International and St. Petersburg-Clearwater International airports from Concord. Read the full story

All lanes have been open since October on Catawba Avenue at I-77 Exit 28, but businesses in the area have yet to completely recover from the gridlock that jammed the interchange this summer. The Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce will host a meeting at Prosciutto’s Pizza at 7pm on Wednesday, Nov. 19 to discuss marketing strategies that could help area businesses not just recover, but thrive.

CONCORD – A Swiss startup company has big plans for the former Philip Morris International factory in Concord: Producing high-tech battery systems for wind and solar power. State officials were in Concord Tuesday as Alevo Group unveiled its plans at the former cigarette plant. The company said the $1 billion plant will employ 500 by the end of 2015. It could grow to 2,500 jobs in the next few years, and as many as 6,000 as business grows. Read the full story

Four Cornelius men have been arrested and charged with vehicle break-ins in Lincoln County after a security camera at the Huntersville Walmart caught one of them using a credit card stolen in the break-ins. Meanwhile, a man told police he was assaulted on West Catawba Avenue when he went to meet another man whom he contacted on Craigslist to buy a phone. Police also were called to investigate the theft of roughly $3,700 in property in a series of car break-ins in the Kenton Place area. Read on for details.

CONCORD – Online retail giant Amazon.com plans to open its first North Carolina distribution center next to the Concord Regional Airport. Work could begin as early as November on the $4.4 million, 222,500-square-foot distribution center in one of two Silverman Group shell buildings being built in the Concord Airport Business Park at 7035 Northwinds Drive, Concord. CONCORD – North Carolina’s first functional diverging diamond interchange is now open on the Poplar Tent Road overpass over I-85, putting drivers on the opposite side of the road as they enter, exit and cross the interstate. Davis Diggs, NC Department of Transportation’s resident engineer, said Monday that drivers have adjusted quickly to the new pattern, despite concerns that its design might cause confusion. The interchange is one of four that have been under construction in the Charlotte area and provides a glimpse at how traffic will flow once the NCDOT’s $6 million reconstruction project is completed at Exit 28 in Cornelius.
