Workers have begun rebuilding Old Canal Street in the Antiquity neighborhood, where a sinkhole has the road closed. Town officials and the developer say fixing the sinkhole will require removing soil and a damaged retaining wall in the area, then rebuilding the wall and refilling the site.
As workers remove soil, they’ll be examining the site carefully. “They are taking down the portion of the wall that was compromised. Then they will try to figure out the problem and build everything back,” said Cornelius Project Manager Tyler Beardlsey.
The developer has said the work could take a couple of weeks.
