A 35-year-old driver died Saturday morning when her car collided head-on with a pickup truck on N.C. 73 near the Cowan’s Ford Dam. Two other people – one a 5-month-old in the woman’s car – also were hurt.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Police said the wreck happened at 10:44 am in the 13000 block of Highway 73, near the Lincoln County line.
Police said Kristy Miller was headed west on N.C. 73 toward Lincoln County in a 2006 Honda Accord when the car drifted over the center line and into the eastbound lane and into the path of a 1997 Ford pickup pulling a trailer. The pickup’s driver, Anne Carter Jones, hit the brakes and tried to steer off the right side of the road, but the two cars collided.
A MEDIC ambulance responded to the scene along with emergency units from Huntersville, Lincoln County and Cornelius. Miller was pronounced dead at 10:59am.
A five-month-old boy in Miller’s car, who was in an infant safety seat, also was injured in the crash, as was Jones. Both were hospitalized with minor injuries.
Police said they’re investigating, and that alcohol does not appear to have be a factor. Witnesses are asked to call Detective Kevin Allred at 704-336-8862
