Cornelius-Lemley Fire Department responded to 41 calls over the past week, including 3 motor vehicle accidents, 3 calls for outside fires, 3 smoke investigations, and 7 fire alarms. More information about these below, along with a tally of this weeks’ medical calls.
MONDAY, FEB. 25, 7:18pm, 20615 Sterling Bay Lane – Firefighters responded to a call for a smell of natural gas. After thorough investigation, the source appeared to be from the gas meter on the outside of the building, and it was shut off and the gas company was notified.
TUESDAY, FEB. 26, 11:32am, 8930 Magnolia Estates Drive – firefighters responded to a call for smoke inside a residence. After searching the home, the source appeared to be the washing machine, which was unplugged and no other source was found.
WEDNESDAY, FEB. 27, 2:52pm, 20401 Zion St. – firefighters responded to a call for smoke in the woods behind residences. After arriving, firefighters found machinery being tested at a nearby shop with no fire or hazardous conditions present.
THURSDAY, FEB. 28, 6:33am, I-77 southbound at Exit 28 – firefighters responded to a call for a wreck on the interstate and found an accident involving two vehicles. No injuries were found, but a fuel spill was quickly contained.
FRIDAY, MARCH 1, 4:45pm, 21328 W. Catawba Ave. – firefighters responded to a call for a traffic accident and arrived to find two vehicles involved with one person injured. The injured motorist was treated by both firefighters and Medic and transported to the hospital.
SATURDAY, MARCH 2, 9:24am, 18900 Jetton Rd. – firefighters responded to a call for an outside fire and arrived to find kids burning wood in a barbecue pit. The fire was quickly extinguished.
SATURDAY, MARCH 2, 10:28pm, Piano Man, 19701 Bethel Church Rd. – firefighters responded to a call for over-crowding in a nightclub. Upon arrival the occupancy permit was retrieved by the owner and instructions about observing occupancy codes were given. The fire marshal was also notified.
Cornelius firefighters responded to 17 medical calls between Feb. 25- March 4. Privacy laws prevent the release of addresses or other information.
