Cornelius Parks, Arts, Recreation and Culture Department (PARC) plans a community meeting Tuesday, Feb. 12, to outline plans for a proposed Greenway trail to connect Bailey Road Park at N.C. 115 with U.S. 21 near the Northcross Shopping Center.
The Town Board voted in December to hire a consultant to work on the greenway project. Stantec Consulting Services is being paid $59,115 to help develop an alignment and cost estimates for the proposed trail.
Officials have discussed several proposed routes between N.C. 115/South Main Street and U.S. 21/Statesville Road. One route follows Caldwell Station Creek, one would run along Bailey Road, and a third would go through the Oakhurst neighborhood.
Cornelius previously has been awarded a $2.15 million grant to help develop the trail, according to town officials. Read more on the town website.
PARC officials said this week the trails would be paved and will be designed to “accommodate a variety of trail users, enhance existing recreational opportunities, provide routes for alternative transportation, and improve the overall quality of life.”
At the Feb. 12 meeting, residents will be invited to review the proposal and offer feedback. The meeting will run 6:30- 8pm at Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Av. For more information, call Town Hall at 704-892-6031, Ext. 160
