The Cornelius Town Board will meet Tuesday, instead of Monday next week because of the Martin Luther King Day holiday, when town offices will be closed. Meanwhile, Commissioner John Bradford has moved his monthly coffee chat from Monday to Wednesday because of holiday schedule changes.
The Town Board meeting begins at 7pm, Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave., Cornelius. The agenda includes a vote on a rezoning to allow the Bank of the Ozarks to build a branch on West Catawba Ave., discussion of HOT lanes, a long-debated street light policy, an Exit 28 Small Area Plan and other issues. The board will:
- Hold a public hearing and then vote on a rezoning to allow Bank of the Ozarks to build a drive-through bank at 19811 West Catawba Ave.
- Hear a presentation on the final version of a small area plan the the Exit 28 area. The town is recommending that the board endorse the plan.
- Review and consider approval of a new street-lighting policy. The board has been considering the policy since last year .
- Review and discuss a resolution that would call on the Lake Norman Transportation Commission to research options for widening I-77 without planned High Occupancy Toll lanes.
- Hear a presentation from economic development consultant Don Harrow
- Consider a resolution supporting Kilahs Law, which would raise the sentencing guidelines for anyone who causes the permanent debilitating physical injury to a child.

COFFEE WITH BRADFORD
Town Commissioner John Bradford invites residents to his monthly coffee chat on Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 9:30-10:45am, at Acropolis Café & Grille, 20659 Catawba Ave., Cornelius.
This month’s meeting has been switched from the usual Monday because of the Martin Luther King holiday observance. Cornelius Public Works Supervisor Ricky Overcash will be this month’s special guest, to discuss his role and the various items being handled by the Public Works department such as sidewalks, paving, etc.
