Prior to its regular meeting Monday night, the Cornelius Board of Commissioners will hold a 2-hour workshop to discuss implementation of the town’s Comprehensive Master Plan. Also Monday, the board will hear an update from the citizen committee charged with developing a new street lighting policy for the town; will consider awarding a bid for street paving to Blythe Construction; and will consider a revised memorandum of understanding for involvement with the CONNECT Consortium, a regional partnership initiative led by the Centralina Council of Governments.
COMPREHENSIVE MASTER PLAN
The plan was approved June 18 and is meant to serve as a guide for town planning and development in the short-term and long-term. More than 300 citizens, town staff members and commissioners were involved in development of the CMP, which was nearly 2 years in the making.
Former commissioner Jim Bensman, who pitched the idea for the CMP and remained very active in its development, will attend the workshop. He voiced concerns about the plan in a letter to the editor July 3, and will further discuss his views during part of the workshop.
The main purpose of the workshop is for board members and town staff to discuss a timeline for implementation of elements the CMP and other related action items.
