Cornelius Commissioner John Bradford on Monday will hold an open “coffee chat” meeting at Acropolis Cafe and Grille from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. and invites any interested Cornelius residents to join him. The time is open and unstructured, and is an opportunity for citizens to talk with a town leader about any issues they would like to discuss.
“A lot of people can’t make it to Town Board meetings Monday,” Commissioner Bradford said, “so these meetings are a way for me to make myself available to more residents of Cornelius.”
Commissioner Bradford plans to hold the meetings regularly – on the third Monday of each month. Citizens do not need to sign up in advance, and can show up for all or part of the time.
The idea for the meetings came from seeing the success of Rep. Thom Tillis’ town hall meetings, he said. Rep. Tillis (R-Cornelius) holds meetings at Town Hall once a month so that he may speak with citizens. (Read more about those meetings here)
“Ideally, I’d love to see 8 to 10 people there each week – a sort of citizen advisory committee,” Commissioner Bradford said. “It’s a way for me to make sure I’m voting in a way that represents what my constituents believe.”
WANT TO GO?
Just show up! Mr. Bradford will be at a table in the back room at Acropolis, 20659 Catawba Ave., beginning at 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 16.
