Cornelius Parks, Art, Recreation & Culture is hosting a Stopover at the Springs, a Revolutionary War encampment, on Saturday and Sunday at Legion Park off North Main Street. The free event lets you experience what a Revolutionary War camp looked like, and how the soldiers dressed and lived.
The encampment ran all day Saturday, attracting an estimated 225 to 250 people. It continues 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at Cornelius Legion Park, 21214 Legion St., Cornelius.
Demonstrations during the two-day encampment include cannon firings, musket drills and fire starting. The Cornelius Historic Preservation Commission has been working on this event for about a year. More information and schedule of events on the commission’s page on the town website, cornelius.org.
Cornelius Police have advised that the event could lead to traffic on North Main Street/N.C. 115, near the park.
