Over the past week, Cornelius firefighters helped Huntersville crews with a fire in a detached garage on Greenway Street, and helped investigate an electrical short-circuit at a Segars Lane home in Huntersville. Crews also responded to an auto wreck with injuries on Catawba Avenue near South Ferry Street, and a report of an outdoor fire on Catawba Avenue. Read below for details of these and other calls.
FIRE REPORTS FEB. 24 – MARCH 2
FRIDAY, FEB 24, 6:50 p.m., 16400 block of Segars Lane, Huntersville – Firefighters responded to a possible structure fire, and found that an electrical outlet had shorted out and tripped the breaker.
SUNDAY, FEB 26, 11:46 p.m., 200 block of Greenway Street, Huntersville – Firefighters were called to assist with a structure fire. Cornelius crews arrived to find a working fire in a detached garage, and assisted Huntersville firefighters at the scene.
TUESDAY, FEB. 28, 8:42 a.m, Catawba Avenue at South Ferry Street, Cornelius – Emergency Crews responded to a vehicle accident with injuries. One driver was complaining of neck pain, but was later released.
THURSDAY, MAR.1, 5:31 p.m., 19900 West Catawba Avenue – Firefighters responded to a report of an outdoor fire on West Catawba Avenue near Knox Road and discovered a cigarette butt burning in a pile of mulch. The cigarette was extinguished with a water can.
FALSE ALARMS: Firefighters also responded to nine calls, including two at Davidson College and one at Davidson Elementary School, that were either canceled while crews were en route or crews arrived to find nothing wrong.
MEDICAL CALLS: In addition to the fire calls, Cornelius crews responded to 23 medical / EMS calls, including a possible stroke, hip injury, and psychological problem, among others. Patient privacy laws prohibit public release of addresses or other details of medical calls.
