HUNTERSVILLE – A 9-year-old boy died in a house fire early Monday morning after firefighters tried unsuccessfully to rescue him from the burning house.
Around 2:15 a.m. Monday, Huntersville Police responded to the house fire, at 13915 Holbrooks Road, and found the home fully engulfed in flames, according to the police report.
As Huntersville Firefighters worked to gain control of the fire, officers spoke with a woman who had been pulled from the house through a bedroom window by a neighbor. She told them her 9-year-old son was still in the house.
The firefighters on scene made every attempt to try and rescue the boy, according to the police report, but were unsuccessful. After the fire was extinguished the child was found in the house, and the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the body.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to police. The Mecklenburg County Fire Marshal’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are assisting with the investigation.
