The Cornelius Police Department hosts a National Night Out event Aug. 2. Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, the annual event is free and open to the public, and aims to promote crime prevention and build positive police-community relationships.
Last year, more than 37 million people nationwide participated in National Night Out.
Community members are invited to join the Cornelius Police Department and the Cornelius Parks, Arts, Recreation and Culture department at Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave., from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 2 to enjoy games, entertainment, food and more. Children will enjoy a Moon Bounce, face painting and balloons.
Also that night, police ask people to leave their porch lights on in observance of the national safety initiative.
