Police seek help identifying sweater found at arson scene

Police are looking for the owner of a charred sweater found at the scene of an arson fire that destroyed an empty house on Meadow Crossing Lane in the Glenridge neighborhood early Tuesday morning. The clothing was found on the back deck of the home – the point of origin for the fire – and may have been used to start the fire.

Tuesday’s was the third fire on Meadow Crossing Lane since December, all of which are under investigation. The last fire, on April 8, destroyed two homes and damaged four just five houses away from the fire Tuesday.

All of the evidence collected from the scene of the fire has been sent to the State Bureau of Investigation for further analysis. Police are asking for any information regarding the owner of the sweater pictured above. According to police: “It appears to be a lightweight sweater-type top with a vertical, wavy design. It was possibly a light gray or white in color.”

POLICE SEEK LEADS

Cornelius Police and the Mecklenburg County Fire Marshal’s office are asking residents who might have seen anything suspicious in the Meadow Crossing Lane area on the night of May 30 and during the early morning hours of May 31 to please contact the Cornelius Police Department immediately, at 704-892-7773. Police say callers can remain anonymous.
