Organizers of Saturday’s planned motorcycle Charity Ride & Poker Run to benefit the Cornelius Veterans Monument have postponed the ride until May 7 because of a threat of severe weather.
Organizers told riders in an email Friday:
To support any riders who do not get the news, and aren’t afraid of 20 MPH crosswinds with potential hail and flying debris, a small group of us will still ride the route and present some raffle prizes in a minimal approach to fulfilling the excitement of the event. So far, we’ll be visiting at least 80 percent of the stops. Attendees will have a much better shot at winning the choice prizes that will be available.
Meanwhile, the main event will be rescheduled to May 7, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. at the future site of the Cornelius Veterans Monument, near the intersection of N.C. 115 and Catawba Ave. behind Town Hall.
American Legion Post 86 in Cornelius is organizing this ride as a fund-raiser for the planned monument, which will include the names of all local veterans who have served in the U.S. armed forces.
